Secondment - The one where we road tripped to meet Mickey (Chronicle 3.1)
Hello peeps!!
How are we doing? Ready to continue with the US adventure?
Let's Go!
Let's Go!
So, after Vegas, we are back on the road.
Day 5 – My friends were so nice that we
drove up to Arizona to see Antelope Canyon
Antelope canyon was on my to-see list for
National Parks and my friends’ being the nice people they are, customised our
trip so I could see it. Yes, we actually trekked back up from Nevada to Arizona
to visit Antelope Canyon. I remember it being a long drive. That’s kind of all
I remember. It was a long drive, and we might have had a longer than expected stop at the supermarket to grab something to bite.
Oh actually, I also remember weaving in and out
of Utah and Arizona. This also meant we time travelled! I felt exactly like
Marty McFly. (Hey – give me this alright, unless they can figure out how to
make the flux capacitor, that was my chance to time travel in a car).
Anyway, Antelope canyon. We visited the
north part and to get there, we were driven there by our guides. Driving
through the sand dunes was fun!!! Haha! After that we got a guided tour through
the canyon and our tour guide was awesome. She taught us the settings we needed
to get the best photos and also explained the different shapes that each rock
showed. I think there was a batman shape somewhere and bear. Pretty neat.
After Antelope canyon we made our way to the GRAND CANYON. Yup caps were necessary!
So we'd spent half the day driving to Antelope Canyon before seeing this bad boy. Basically by the time we got here, it was dusk time and no tours were running. But the gates were still open for visitors to enter and see one side of the Canyon. Boy, what a sight! We enjoyed the beauty. Then the breeze started coming in and I was the only one to become slightly cold. We stopped at Flagstaff for the night to rest and recover.
Day 6 – We didn’t make it to Route 66 but
we made it to San Diego
My friend wanted to drive down
Route 66, unfortunately we didn’t have enough time to do this, but we found the
visitor’s centre in Flagstaff! He was still quite happy with that. From Flagstaff we decided to stop at Sedona, I
don’t actually remember if this was planned. But it was a nice stop. It was
here that we found Snoopy!!
On this leg of our journey (ok, so some of
you might realise that I’ve been saying leg a lot. I’ve been watching a lot of
The Amazing Race. The term is stuck in my head).
This
leg involved a lot of driving as we were going through Pheonix to get to San
Diego. Along the way, we saw little bits and pieces of the Mexican border, like we actually saw the
fence! I don’t have a photo though, but trust me, we drove by it. Also for this
for this drive, we pretty much drove through a quarry and windmill farms.
Different scenery there! Again, apologies, but no photos unfortunately.
Days 7 and 8 - We saw all the animals in San Diego
We made it to sunny California. Californiaaaaaaaaaaa loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.... yeah!
We visited SeaWorld and San Diego Zoo. The last time I went to SeaWorld was when I was in primary school and it was in the Gold Coast. I don't remember much from this trip, so I was very excited for this one. We saw a whole bunch of sea creatures, had lunch with Shamu, went on a few rides and watched a few of the shows.
We also saw plenty of animals in San Diego Zoo. Pandas, red pandas, turtles, sloths, elephants. I’ll be honest with you. At the time, I was really into Wong Fu and saw a Wong Fu Weekend where they went to San Diego Zoo, and since then. I just had to go... What? Never been influenced by YouTubers before?
Day 9 - We made it to the land of the Stars
First stop was Universal Studios Hollywood. Yup, we came here for the rides! They had just opened the new Despicable Me ride, Minion Mayhem, and at this point in time, everyone (including me) was obsessed with minions. So obvs we had to go on the ride. Haha. It was pretty cool. It was a 3-D based ride and there was an interactive dance party after. We went on the Transformers ride (which died on us! Half way through the ride it died =.=), Jurassic Park ride, The Mummy ride, The Simpsons ride and watched plenty of shows. Unfortunately for us, Harry Potter was just being constructed at the time. Sad Face!
When in Hollywood, we had to do a studio tour. My friend had selected Paramount Studios. It was pretty cool, going around their set and seeing the behind-the-scenes of making movies and movie magic.
We also visited Hollywood Blvd, saw the Walk of Fame and Chinese Threatre. We also watched a movie in the Chinese Threatre. I think we watched X-Men, I'm pretty sure we did.
After playing tourist in LA, we were off to Anaheim to go to... drum roll please... DISNEYLAND!!! The happiest place on earth. I didn't take that many photos because we were just enjoying ourselves way too much there. Although I did get sick on the ferris wheel (yes, I got sick from the Ferris wheel, only I would get sick from something like that. Go down the Tower of Terror i'm fine, rock back and forth on a ferris wheel and i'm gone =.=). But there was a Marvel exhibition on at the time and we got to meet Thor and Captain America. Way cool. But the coolest person whom we met, was Mickey Mouse! Oh Mickey, you're so fine. You're so fine you blew our minds!
And that my friends, was the end of my first American road trip. It might have been short. But it was filled with a lot of fun memories.
I definitely want to go back and do another one. It was oh so much fun! Hope you all enjoyed reading.
Until next time peeps!
