Secondment - The one with the San Fran food adventure (chronicle 2.1)
Hello my friends,
How are we today? Getting ready for those Friday shenanigans?
Firstly, I hope y'all have had breakfast and are not that hungry. If not, I apologise in advance.
Firstly, I hope y'all have had breakfast and are not that hungry. If not, I apologise in advance.
So, this post will be about my food adventures. I can't write a post about San Fran without mentioning the food. I ate so much here, I’m pretty sure I gained weight.
Similar to Sydney, San Fran had a lot of trendy food places. I don’t remember the details of everything I ate, but here’s some photos. So enjoy!
Hand pulled spicy noodles from Xi’an Gourmet Restaurant
My friend recommended that I try this dish as it is one of their most popular. I couldn't wait. I just remember it tasting really nice. If I can finish a dish, i'll always say it's good. I Googled the restaurant and I think Google said that it's closed now. Sad face!
Waffle and drip coffee from Blue Bottle – Ferry Building
Coming from Sydney we love our coffee. We are often called coffee snobs... Anyway, when a friend told me that Blue Bottle was one of the most popular coffee in San Fran, I had to try it. Upon reading the reviews, they were popular for their drip coffee. So... I tried it. Probably not a fan of drip coffee yet, but the waffle was delicious. I did come back for a cappuccino. It wasn't too bad. Not bad at all. Hats off to Blue Bottle.
Clam Chowder in a bread bowl from Boudin
When in San Fran, this is a must try dish. The famous clam chowder in a bread bowl. I chose to have this from Boudin, but you can try it anywhere that serves it. Boudin is a popular chain and also very popular among tourist. I tried this from the one in Pier 39. I really enjoyed this. I did. It was my first time having clam chowder and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Kakuni Ramen with Pork Belly, Ramen Yamadaya
I was in Japan Town and really wanted to have some ramen. I was craving it. This was a recommendation from Yelp. When I was deciding which ramen to select the waiter suggested that I try this as it was the most popular dish at the restaurant. I mean yolo right, why not. The soup was quite thick, thicker than what i'm use to, but the pork belly was yum and noodles were quite firm.
Sesame noodles from iChino, Farmers market
stall
This was from one of the restaurants at the food stalls in the Farmers market. It was oh so yummy!! I loved coming down to the Farmers market on Saturdays, buying a meal and juice from Pressed Juicery and just chilling by the wharf and eating. There are plenty of other food stalls around, there was a popular crackling pork stall - which I will add was mouth wateringly good. When I tried it, I understood why there was a line.
Poko Tacos with sweet potato fries, Gotts
I've never had poko tacos before, so again a first! It was definitely interesting trying this for the first time. But no regrets. I finished it. And check out those sweet potato fries! Om nom nom nom!
Fish Tacos from Gotts
My manager asked if i've had fish tacos from Gotts. I said no, I tried the poko tacos. She told me that was the wrong choice. So for lunch, we went to get fish tacos and chilli cheese fries and garlic fries. Boy was I stuffed after that meal. Oh and the fish tacos were deliciousOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...SOOOOOOO... GOOD!
Burger and fries from Johnny Rockets, Fisherman's Wharf
Before coming to America, my cousin told me that I had to try Johnny Rockets. So, what happened? I was just wondering around Fisherman's Wharf and stumbled upon it. I liked it. It's got the whole 1950s style diner feel. So cool. Check out that burger. The beef patty was nice and juicy.
Chicken braised with greens and pancetta –
Bouli Bar, Ferry Building
One day I got hungry while in the Ferry Building so i just popped in. It was an interesting dish. It smelt good. Chicken was tender. So happy with the find.
Mint mojito ice coffee from Philz Coffee
So one day at work, my manager calls and told us that she was getting the team cofee from Philz. My team mate was ecstatic and told me that I had to try to mint mojito ice coffee. So I did. OH MY LORD! My mind was blown. I loved it! I prefer this to Blue Bottle. And best thing ever, Philz was close to my apartment! When my friends arrived, I brought them here. They loved it too. Definitely worth a try for coffee lovers.
Chocolate macadamia cookie with green tea ice cream from Cream, San Mateo
On a night out with my SF buddy she asked if i've ever had the ice cream sandwich. I said no. She was shocked. She brought me here. My life was changed! haha! I mean c'mon. Ice cream and cookies. It's a winning formula! This place was a DIY, so you could pick your cookie and then ice cream flavour.
Short rib burger from Kojo Kitchen
Fort Mason runs Off the Grid, basically a night where there's food trucks for miles. How do I assess what to eat at a food truck. Whichever one has the longest line. Yup this one. It was a short rib burger. Like drools right? It was so good! I gobbled it all up! MmmmMMMmmm.
Gourmet Hotdog from Wafudog, Food stall
Enjoying the sun at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Japan Town and there was a line of food stalls. Not knowing what to get my friend suggested the hotdogs. Alright, I said. Yeah, wasn't disappointed with this choice. Also top that with a Sapporo. Can't lose right. #win!
Hot pot at Little Mongolian Lamb, San Mateo
Who doesn't love a little hot pot? Enough said. Just check out the photo.
Lunch at Palomino
I don't actually remember what is in this and didn't write it down anywhere. But it looks nice. I had so much salad in San Fran, that's how good it was. But their portions are so big, that I could only eat half at a time. So if i ever had salad for lunch, it would also become my dinner.
And that rounds up the food adventure. I hope you all enjoyed that. I know I did. Reminiscing about what I ate and where brought back some lovely memories.
Thanks for reading. Hope I didn't make anyone hungry.
Until next time!
