What do you get when you cross the supernatural with audit?
Hiya guys!
How's everyone? Loving these cold nights?
So today's post is a little different. Someone (you know who you are) has been asking me to try and write a story, so I came up with this idea.
Happy reading!!
Where am
I? My head really hurts. I smell blood. I tried to feel the back of
my head but I couldn’t move my arms. The space is too small. I slowly open my
eyes. Nothing. I see nothing. Just the darkness. What the hell is going on? I
tried to speak, but my throat was too dry. I just croaked. Panic started to set
in.
THUMP!
The wall
just shook.
THUMP!
THUMP!
Then I hear
a blood curdling scream.
CRACK!
Something
rips. It sounds like wood. The cracking became louder and the light becomes
brighter. I squint. THUD! Dust started to consume me and I cough uncontrollably.
A shadow slowly approached me and unties me. I collapse and fall onto the
figure.
“Just
another night ey?” smiled Lucas.
He looked
dishevelled. Ripped shirt, scratches on his face. I scanned the room and saw the
vampire lying on the floor. my eyes flicked back at Lucas and the vampire. I
slowly got up. His cold green eyes were just staring at
me. I examined his pale face, his mouth slightly open showing his sharp fangs.
There were specks of blood on them. His black hair was
slicked back. He couldn’t be older than 21. I see Lucas’s stake protruding from
his chest. His blood slowly dripping out. I sighed.
There’s a
faint smell of honeysuckle in the air.
“Yup. Just
another night. That makes it what, the 5th one this week?” I asked
as I reached behind my head to feel something warm and sticky. ‘Great another
cut’, I said to myself as I examined the blood on my fingers.
I thought I saw the vampire move. No, I must be mistaken. Lucas rammed his
stake into his chest. He’s dead. I continued to examine the body.
“Yeah, the
5th one. I wonder where they keep coming from?” Lucas asked as he
also examined the body and started taking photos with his iPhone. “Looks
there’s the same mark on this one as the others,” he pointed to three black
lines scratched above the right elbow.
I bent down
to take a closer look. ‘What does this mean?’ I asked myself as I moved closer to the body. The hand twitched. I took a deep breath. ‘A dead hand
can’t twitch…’ It twitched again. My eyes grew larger as I slowly stood up…
“LUCCCCC….!”
Then it
happened. I was pulled back to the floor with such force. He was on top of me.
His vivid green eyes as alive as ever. His mouth salivating, thirsting for
blood. I couldn’t move my hands; I can see his face inching closer to my neck
as I struggled to get free…
Then all of
a sudden the vampire disappeared. I looked around with confusion wondering what
happened. I see Lucas fighting with the vampire, he must have tackled him to get
him off me. I need to help him. ‘Why isn’t he dead?’ I scrambled around the
warehouse looking for a weapon. Anything. I see a wooden plank.
“This’ll
do. This’ll do,” I muttered as I grabbed it and ran towards Lucas.
Lucas had
the vampire in a head lock, the stake was still protruding from his chest. It
must not be deep enough. With all my strength I smacked the plank against the
stake. The vampire screamed and then collapsed.
I looked at
Lucas and Lucas looked at the vampire.
“Ok… he has
to be dead now, right?” I asked apprehensively as I slumped to the floor.
His body
looked limb, and the smell of honeysuckle was stronger than before.
I look at
my watch. 2am. I need to be up in 4 hours to get to work.
“I got to
go. I can’t be late for work again. Text me later."
BEEP. BEEP.
BEEP. BEEP.
6am. I rolled over trying to find my phone. I laid there. My head still in pain. I
slowly got up and got ready for work.
8:15am. I
arrived at work. I walked in and set up. Slowly my colleagues started rolling in. I just
stare at my screen, it’s been stuck on the Windows logo for a while now.
8:30am. I
scroll Lync to see if anyone else is on.
8:45am.
It’s time for coffee. I need coffee. I look at my colleagues wondering if they
need coffee too. They’re also staring at
their screens. Why did I even need to ask, I know the answer will be yes.
“Coffee?” I
ask already standing up and grabbing my wallet.
“Yes!” they
all said in unison.
Off we went
to grab the elixir of life.
9am. It’s
time to get to back work. After speaking to the client I allocated each team
member their tasks for the week. I clicked on an excel file. My phone buzzed. It’s
a text from Lucas.
‘V attack. Bankstown. F, 21, same feats. and
marks.’
I Googled ‘Vampire Bankstown’. There weren’t any news articles,
however, there were some blog posts from people. I scanned
through these.
“Dammit!”
sweared Penny. “The tb doesn’t balance.”
Everyone
rolled their eyes.
“Every time”
I sighed. “Why can’t a client ever give us a balanced tb.” I hung my head.
“Want some help?”
I walked
over to Penny’s side to see what was wrong. My phone buzzed several more times.
But I ignored it as I needed to get this trial balance to balance. If it didn’t
balance, we won’t know what numbers we need to audit to. I had a look at
Penny’s vlookup formula and quickly scanned the accounts matched and compared
it to the original file.
“Oh,
there’s some new accounts. Just do a v-lookup the other way and it should
identify the new accounts then just copy them across. Like this.” I showed
Penny an example.
“Oh, ok. I
see,” she said as she watched and nodded.
“It’s ok.
It happens to everyone” I said as I smiled. “Once you know what to do, you can
make any tb balance.”
I grabbed my
phone and scanned through all the new messages. I looked at the time.
“How can it
only be 10am?” I asked slumping down into my chair. “It should be lunch time
already.”
My
colleagues laughed.
“I know
right. I’m starving. Tea break?” asked Mike getting up and stretching.
I looked at
my workbook. Nothings typed. Typical.
“Sure”, I
replied. “I’ll start this later. Anyone else want tea?”
The other
two nodded. On our way to the kitchen we passed by the client’s office.
“How’s the
audit going?” asked the client.
“Fine”, I
replied. “You know the usual, first day, we’re just going through all the
information we have so far.”
The client
nods. His skin was quite pale, his hair slicked back and he had heavy bags under his
striking green eyes. He looked like he hasn’t slept in days. I could smell a
faint scent of honeysuckle. I took another glance at him. No, that’s just
coincidence I thought.
What did you guys think? Should I continue? Haha.
Until next time!

Of course u should!
