May Food Adventures
Hi Guys,
Are you ready for the May edition? Let's see where I ventured to for this month's food adventures.
May 2 - Impromptu stop at Circa Espresso, Parramatta
Look at
those pretty colours. So from left to right we have;
Are you ready for the May edition? Let's see where I ventured to for this month's food adventures.
May 2 - Impromptu stop at Circa Espresso, Parramatta
This visit
was more of a spur of the moment thing. With a friend suddenly being free, she
asked if I would like to have lunch with her. With nothing on my agenda I figured why not. I’ve been to Circa a few times already and the food here usually
doesn’t disappoint. Today wasn’t any different. I love avocado, and felt like
today would be an avo day. So I ordered the;
Avocado Feta, ricotta crush with quinoa, corn
& pomegranate tabouli, dukkah & citrus oil on sourdough
Look at
what came out. Damn! It was very filling and very delicious. My only criticism
is, I just wish there was more avo.
May 6 - Feelin' like some Spanish, we went Subsolo, Sydney CBD
Today, we
celebrated my best friend’s birthday and we decided to have some spanish food. She told me that her friend told
her that the sangria was one of the best she’s ever had. Well that sold it for
me. Look at all that reddy goodness. Delicious!!
We ordered some tapas (from left to right) Garlic
prawns, meatballs and patatas bravas. If i'm honest, the tapas was ok. Probably, not the best i've had. But if you feel like just grabbing a bite while enjoying some sangria, this will suffice.
After filling up on tapas, we had the chicken and chorizo paella. Can't enjoy some spanish and not have paella. Again, probably not the best paella i've had. But it was still pretty good and it did the job in filling us up quite nicely.
May 6 - There’s always room for Oliver
Brown dessert, Haymarket
After that
carb filled dinner, we walked from Pitt Street Mall to Haymarket.
Purely because we were all stuffed and needed to make room for dessert. After some deliberation we settled for some chocolate and off we went to Oliver Brown. Once
here we indulged in some waffle-y goodness that was covered in chocolate with a side of
that vanilla ice cream. Yes, there always needs to be ice cream.
May 7 - The place on the corner, Excelsior
Jones, Ashfield
Today's social event was held at Excelsior Jones. Situated on a nice
corner, the sun was out, the staff were nice and accommodating. We needed a table with space for a pram, so they sat us outside. Fantastic customer service. It was a
beautiful Saturday morning. While waiting for the gang to arrive, I ordered a
cappuccino. Of course I ordered a cap, what else would I order guys.
It arrived in a nice pale yellow cup. It really matched the nice
weather we were having.
So what did
I try today? I ordered the Breakfast Salad. The description made it
sound oh so yummy. Check it.
Quinoa, black rice, kale, fennel, poached egg,
avocado, pomegranate, nuts & seeds, tahini dressing
It was delicious and fresh. Only problem was it didn't really fill me up that much. That's my only criticism. I should
have chosen the cheeseburger, that actually sounded really nice too. That’s
alright, just means I got to come back. I don’t mind doing that.
May 12 - we went local and visited The
Usual, Cabramatta
Cabramatta
is known for their Asian cuisines; Pho, Yum Cha, duck noodles, so to find a
café here is very unusual. However, this one works. Situated at the corner of
Hill St, however when I describe it to my friends I say, it’s near the
multistorey parking. It's a nice open layout, simple, lots of natural light. Of course the day would not be
right without a coffee, this time cold style.
For breakky today I ordered the;
The Bae –
Bacon and egg roll with sauce on brioche bun
MMMMMMMMMMMMmm
who doesn’t enjoy a nice bacon and egg roll. I don’t need to say anything else.
I mean it was just delicious!!!!
May 21 –
Roadtrippin’ to Berry Sourdough Bakery & Café and the
Famous Berry Donut Van
Today my
friends and I decided to make the drive down to Berry for some donuts. Yup, that's right guys, we travelled down south for donuts. It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO worth it!
But before
indulging in some freshly baked goods, we decided to have some lunch.
First stop,
Berry Sourdough Bakery & Café. We had just missed the breakfast menu by
15min and had to wait another 15min to be able to order from the lunch menu. Of
course we ordered some coffee. Check out those pretty green cups.
Then the food came, thank the lord, because I was starving!!!
Today we decided to go off menu and ordered off the special board. WOAHHHH so cray cray right? ha!
Roast chicken Maryland with kipfler potatoes, apple, bacon and cabbage
salad.
The touch of apple to this salad made it nice and refreshing. The crunch you get when you combine it with cabbage and a piece of chicken. MmmmMMmmmm...
My friend ordered the
Rigatoni with spanish pork sausage, roast fennel,
sofrito.
I tried a bit of this and oh my lord!!! It was so good! I would recommend this dish. Read my friend's blog for more details on how amazing it was.
Now we
venture off to find some donuts. So back in 2014, my friends made the trip down
to Berry for some donuts, without me… Why wasn’t I there? Well I was in San
Fran at the time. They kind of forgot that detail and thought I’d already
tried the donuts. But I haven’t... So for a while all I heard was how good they were... it just made me want to try them even more! So FINALLY! 2 years later, here I am, trying these famous donuts.
Boy! They did not disappoint!!
May 22 - a day to catch-up and celebrate at
The Flower Child café, Chatswood
For today’s
adventure, I travelled up North to Chatswood for today’s social event of
catching up and celebrating. Now for those of you who haven’t been to this café
before, it can be a bit hard to find. I know I struggled. It’s on Level 3 of
Westfields on the Coles side. I got lost finding it and I parked on the Coles
side as well. =.=
Anyway,
while we were waiting for our table, we were offered some sample smoothies;
Blueberry and banana and the Flowerchild Pina Colada. That was tres cool!
Awesome customer service there. Once seated, we ordered drinks.
Freshly made watermelon, pineapple, lemon and
cucumber juice (look
at the layering of colours. So pretty!), salted
caramel smoothie and lycee and mint
smoothie.
So today I decided to order the;
Flower Child French Toast - Banana mascarpone, sliced banana, dark chocolate crumb, fresh berries & salted toffee
I should really stop ordered french toast at cafes, but reading the description just made me drool! Just look at it. It's so aesthetically pleasing, how could I not order it. I always told myself, if I was to open a cafe one day, I want my dishes to be aesthetically pleasing like this. So instagrammable! Also, just delicious! It wasn't too heavy and the fruits and dark chocolate helped to add that little zing to it.
So that was the food adventure for the month of May. Hope you all enjoyed!
Until next time!
Until next time!
