June food adventures

Hello people!

I hope you're ready for the June food adventures.

So i'm actually going to start with a place I went to at the end of May which wasn't included in the May post.

May 27 - Starting with a brunch fave, Bills, Surry Hills

Today my cousin and I decided to venture out to good ol’ Surry Hills and brunch at Bills. I’ve always wanted to try Bills and earlier in the year, during a holiday to Japan, we saw the Tokyo branch in Harujuku. So it was a sign that I would basically try this place this year. Hahaha.

Upon entering, we got a table with enough space for a pram, very hospitable indeed! My cousin told me the corn fritters were really good. Best recommendation. That’s what I ordered.

sweet corn fritters, roast tomato, spinach and bacon + avocado salsa

With the addition of the avocado salsa, the corn fritters were fresh and delicious!
June 4 - I went back to Excelisor Jones, Ashfield for the Cheeseburger

Here I am, back again. Excelisor's back. Today’s social gathering was a catch up with ex-workmates and the main purpose was to have the cheeseburger. One friend said they were the best he’s ever had. So basically from his word, we had to try it. Look at that cheesey goodness. The patty is cooked medium rare – just perfect. Cheese, tomato, lettuce. Simple and delicious. Top that with a side of fried spuds. So drool-worthy!
June 10 - Catching up with old friends in the local eatery – Terranova Bar Restaurant, Horsley Park

Today was a day to catch up with high school friends and it was oh so much fun. My friend had booked this place for us, which was a bit tricky to get to. When I say tricky, I just mean that you can miss the turn into the restaurant. But for those who wish to try, it’s where Shark golf is.

The food here was delicious, we started with entries - Garlic pizza and bruschetta pizza. Unfortunately no photos. But these were yummy!

For my main I ordered the

Linguine con Scampi - Scampi, cherry tomato, zucchini, garlic and chilli tossed with rocket

Boy was it filling and delicious and beautiful with flavour.
And of course, there’s always room for dessert

Tiramisu – heavy with flavour.

A good way to end the night.
June 11 – Keeping with the local theme, brunching at 6 Points Café, Fairfield

For the start of the long weekend, one of my best friends and I decided to check out the new café in our hood, 6 Points Café. Located on Hamilton Rd. The café is spacious and has an amazing exposed brick design. The breakfast menu is offered all day and lunch starts from 12pm. As we got to the café at 10am to avoid the crowds we browsed the breakfast menu. Coffee is brewed using Toby Estate coffee beans and the cappuccino came out nice and smooth!

Today, I decided to try the;

Middle Eastern Scramble – Marinated chickpeas, sautéed with eggs and avocado

Very nice and yummy, just a tad spicy which helped with adding a kick of flavour. I liked that the fact that this was served with avocado as well. I always love myself a smash avo.
Nutella donut

This was amazing! The donut wasn’t too strong which meant the nutella wasn’t overpowering. Fantastic with a cup of coffee.
June 15 – Still staying fairly local, The Pink Flamingo, Parramatta

Continuing with checking out the local eateries, today’s café choice was The Pink Flamingo. Located on Marsden St, only a few minutes’ walk from Westfield’s, the café is owned by the Paper Plane crew. The café itself is nice and spacious with an industrial feel. The staff who greeted us was welcoming and able to provide us with a table that had enough space for a pram. The menu offers all day breakfast and a lunch menu option. Today I ordered;

Green Papaya and watermelon salad with chicken skewers
The green papaya gives it a nice thai feel. The addition of watermelon makes it nice and fresh, a nice light dish to enjoy.

My cousin ordered the...

Fish Tacos with a side of corn cob
This was a delicious and highly recommended. The fish was nice and crispy topped with cabbage, corn and a side of corn. MmmmMmm.

June 18 – Staying in the local zone, The Picnic at Burwood, Burwood

This place has been on my brunch list for a while, so when I finally got the chance to try it out I was excited. Today probably wasn’t one of the best days to go to the Picnic, it was dreary and cloudy, therefore we couldn’t utilize the picnic blanket in the park option, however they still offered a seating area under the pagoda. At The Picnic I ordered;

Not so French Toast – Coco pops covered French toast with watermelon base with dulce de leche, berry reduction, fresh berries and Persian fairy floss.

Just look at how pretty it looks. It tasted just as good as it looked! I cleared the plate.
As I was only able to try the breakfast menu, I’ll be back to try the lunch menu.
June 23 - Brunching it up at The Paramount Coffee Project, Surry Hills

Today was a beautiful day in Sydney and we decided to brunch in Surry Hills. I quite like Paramount Coffee Project because it offers up a different menu to the normal brunch style foods. The menu includes a few fried chicken inspired recipes, i'm thinking this is through the influence of their LA counterpart.

With their menu being a bit different, I decided to order something different too;

PCP Gumbo with chorizo, fried chicken, okra, kale, pickled slaw, prawn crumb & housemade corn bread

my cousin ordered the

Buttermilk Fried Chicken waffle with maple bacon, gravy, chilli pickled apple, charred radicchino and roasted hazelnuts

Tres americano! and tastes so good!!
June 24 - Going back to our hood, Ristretto & Co Cafe, Liverpool

I've been meaning to try this cafe for a long time and when I say long time. I mean a long time. Someone I know has been bugging me to constantly come here and try it. He constantly raves about the food and Campos coffee.

The order for today was

Black rice salad with pumpkin, pomegranate and some other things i forgot ><

My cousin oredered the pasta special for the day and a side of shoe string fries.
And that's it for the month of June. Boy was that fun.

Wonder what the month of July has in store for me.
Until next time!
