February Food adventures

Welcome back to the monthly food adventures! Wooooooooooooooooooo!! Yayyyyyyyy!!!!!!

Righto, first up, we tried some Vietnamese in Newtown - Black Gingwner, Newto

Before seeing Yellowcard perform their Final World Tour concert at the Enmore Theatre, my friend and I decided to grab something to eat. While walking along Enmore road and browsing the menus we came across Black Ginger, a fusion healthy Vietnamese restaurant. I decided to order the sugar cane prawn vermicelli salad. MmmmmmMmm sugar cane prawns.

Going back to the local eats – The Weston Cafe

My best friend and I decided to organise our New Zealand trip at one of the local eateries here, the Weston. I’ve been to The Weston before and I loved it. It has a clean hipster café look and the menu is quite extensive. One of their popular menu items here is their matcha hotcakes, which we ordered;
Along with another one of their popular dishes - the MacDaddy. Look at all that cheese!

Farewell brunch at the Grounds of Alexandria

My cousin was leaving to study in Seoul soon, so I decided to take her to the Grounds as a farewell brunch. The day that I decided to take her to the Grounds it was a scorcher in Sydney! Dear lord, it was 40 deg plus!!!!! Good ol’ Sydney heat wave. So what did we order?
We decided to have;
Seafood orecchiette – Orecchiette pasta with pipis, prawns, roasted tomatoes & baby herbs
Quinoa & Heirloom Beetroot Salad – black and while quinoa, heirloom beets, green apple, roasted cauliflower, toasted hazelnuts
With a side of crunchy battered chips with alioli

Doing healthy Thai at Boon Café

When my friend asked where to eat to catch up, I suggested Boon café. Boon café describes itself as Sarnie by day and Issan by night. Part of the Chat Thai franchise, Boon is described as their passion project. A café that fuses Thai food with fresh, healthy ingredients. For most my mornings, I pop by for my morning coffee.

One lovely Tuesday evening I decided to come here for dinner with my friend and boy did we pig out! Just look at what we ordered;

Gai Yaang – Herb marinated chicken
Dtum Thai – spicy green papaya salad – warning this is thai spicy! HOT!
Yum ma-ma – spicy noodles, minced chicken, calamari, muscles
Yum naam khao toat – spicy crisp rice, fermented pork, peanuts and soft herbs

And for dessert we ordered
Dessert – Kanam pung yen – ice bread with milo
We walked out with a massive food coma. I’ll definitely be back, in-fact later on in the week I came back for lunch J
