Day 2 - Walking Arthurs Trail

Today we started off with breakfast at Black Betty. One of the local cafes of Christchurch central. "Whoa, Black Berry (Bam-ba-Lam)", yup that song was playing in my head the entire time we ate here.

What can I say about this place, hmmm. How about, great coffee, large portions. I mean look at that smash avo, it came with bacon!!!

If you are keen to try Black Betty, I recommend arriving early, as the morning progressed the cafe became more and more crowded.

After being well fed, we were off on merry way to Arthur's Pass.

Arthur's Pass was just over 2 hrs away from Christchurch by car. The drive was simple and a constant 100km/h unless you entered into residential areas.

The views along the drive were just simply amazing!

Two hours and 149 km later we have arrived!

Here we decided to stop off at the visitor's centre for a toilet break and to see what hiking (when I say hiking I mean walking) trails available. After chit chatting with the friendly staff, they recommended doing Arthurs Pass walking trail.

The walk is just under 3 hours return. We started at the Punchbowl car park. From here, it's a 20 minute walk to Bridal Veil Falls lookout, a nice detour if you have the time.

The walk took us through the subalpine mountain beech forest, it was like walking through an enchanted forest. With birds chirping, you really immerse yourself in the tranquillity of nature.

Be warned, there are many stairs, we were told that we would be walking approximately 300 steps. Boy, was that a lot!
After about 50 minutes, we made it to Jacks Hut. You need to cross the highway to continue the walk. Be careful though, cars tend to speed here.

My words can't really describe the amazing views we got walking the rest of the way to the Dobson Memorial. So I'll just show you with photos. :)
I told you it was gorgeous! Amazing! Breath-taking!

Doesn't it remind you of LOTR? Like, OMG! Just beautiful! Half way through our walk I would pretend that I was helping Frodo and the fellowship take the ring to Mordor =D.

Time: 2 hours 40 mins
Kilometres walked: 6.8km

If you only have time for one walk, I suggest taking this one. The stairs and slight inclines are the only difficulties which you may face.
