Day 3: Driving south

Today's the day. Today we officially start our road trip. WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Destination: Lake Tekapo

Route: in-land scenic route

Estimated time: 3 hrs 15min

Kilometres: 257km

After a quick breakfast and our last Netflix session we were off to our new destination! The thing I love about road trips is the ability to stop at random places. I couldn't wait to see what we could find on our drive.
About an hour into the drive we saw a small turn off that lead to a lake near the Mount Hutt area.

Welcome to Rakaia Gorge!

This little spot was gorgeous!

After a bit of Googling I found out that you can actually take a small walk to the bridge to get a better view of the gorge. If you had more time, you can do a 4 hour day hike around the area. Be warned, it can be a bit slippery.

After taking a bazillion photos, including several jump shots, we were on the road again.

20 minutes later, we stopped again. This time at Staveley to enjoy some meat pie!

Staveley is a cute little township with a cute little shop in a cute little setting. Look at how cute it is! They offer amazing pies, which are freshly baked!

If you decide to head further into town, you can find an ice rink that was built by the locals in 1949. They also have two historic lime kilns, one was unfortunately damaged by an earthquake and has since been closed. However, the other is still open to the public.

After devouring our pies, we were off again. This time we continued to drive until we reached our final destination. Lake Tekapo! Woahhhhhhhhh, so blue! So pretty! Yup we said that a lot when we saw the lake. Haha.
Accommodation: Lake Tekapo Holiday Homes
If you ever decide to come to Lake Tekapo, I'd recommend booking your accommodation early. We left our's quite late and were lucky to get a room at Lake Tekapo Holiday Homes. This place wasn't that bad. The room we got was set up like a studio apartment, the only down side, all the bugs that flew in at night when we left the window opened for air. The place was also a 5 minute drive from Tekapo Village.

After resting and freshing up, we decided to do some sight seeing. Obviously the one thing we had to see while we were at Lake Tekapo was the Church of the Good Sheppard.
While we were admiring the church, we could hear some piano music planning. Turns out that Evolving Rhythms was playing at the church. If you haven't heard of Evolving Rhythms you should check him. He found this piano at the tip and re-built it and now plays it all around New Zealand.
Amazing view. Calming music. What more could you want!
With New Zealand heading into autumn and day light savings hadn't ended yet, we were able to capture the sunset at Lake Tekapo. I'm presuming you know what that means, photo opportunity time!!!!
Just look at the purple hue!!!
OMG!!!! Those shades, the colours!

What a way to end our third day in this beautiful country.
