August Food Adventures

Hi Guys!!

So i've been MIA for a bit, there's no excuse, just been a bit lazy. I've been binge watching shows, right now i'm binge watching American Horror Story. Anywho! It's that time of the month for my food adventures blog. August wasn't as foodful as other months, but I still went to a few good places.

Sunday 7th – A truffle filled brunch, Devon Café, Surry Hills
Devon Café has been on my list for AGES! And now FINALLY the day has come for me to try it. Being a Sunday, it was very packed and my friends and I had to squeeze onto a small table. The waiter told us that truffle season was coming to an end so their truffle specials would cease to be served soon.

Check out the truffle specials that were on offer.
My friend really wanted the;
Super fries – Chips serving with gruyere & tasty cheese shaved with truffle

So of course we ordered some. The chips were a bit soft for my liking. I'm a crunchy fan.
I ordered the;
“Ultimate Toastie – mixed satueed mushrooms, gruyere cheese fried eggs, chives, saved with Truffle on sourdough”
It was definitely an ultimate toastie. If you are a mushroom fan, you'll favour this as there was plenty to go around. The toastie was a bit oily for my liking, if there was less mushrooms I think I would have really enjoyed this dish more.

This was quite filling for me, too much mushrooms for my liking. However, still delicious!! Look at all those truffle shavings!
My friends ordered the;
Crab Gone Chili – Fresh chili angel hair pasta, blue swimmer crab with garlic oil, coriander zesty herb crumb
I really liked this pasta dish. The flavours were well balanced with a hint of chili. Delicious! I'd definitely come back for this!

My other friend ordered;
Breakfast with the Sakuma’s – Miso grilled king salmon, smoked eel croquette, 63’ egg, radish petit salad & kewpi mayonnaise

I also enjoyed this dish. It was a lighter than mine and had a much fresher taste. The salmon was well cooked and the eel croquette was definitely something different but tasty!

Saturday 13th - Time for a Dirty Bird at Reuben Hill, Surry Hills
Today my friends and I came into the city to pay a visit at the optom. However, before we did this, we decided to have brunch at Reuben Hill. I’ve been here once before, a few years back and I remember the salted caramel milkshake being oh-so-deliciouso!

Today I opted for a coffee, needed my morning cuppa and decided to pair it with the;

Dirty Bird - spiced grilled chicken, tomatillo salsa, cheese, pickles, chipotle aioli on brioche

And, was this burger big! Luckily they had knives and forks. I deconstructed this beast to finish it off. Boy, was it yummy! The spice gave it a nice kick and it was very filling. I will definitely be coming back for this type of burger.

Sunday 21st – After a day of colourful fun, we re-fueled at White Taro, Surry Hills
If White Taro isn’t on your list of cafes to visit. I say add it! The food was amazing, the staff are nice and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. Also, for those with prams, they have a back seating area, so you don’t have to worry about those front steps.

First off the menu we ordered our drinks. My friend ordered an ice coffee, and yup they made it the best way, with ice cream! As for me, I decided to quinche my thirst with Cà phê sữa đá. This is my first time having this outside of Cabramatta and might I say, it was quite good!
 As for food I decided to order the;
Taro's Deconstructed "Banh Mi" - Crispy pork belly, house made apple and date chutney, crunchy veggie pickles, spiced kumquat butter, kimchi, chicken orange pâté served with freshly baked baguette
While this involved me constructing a banh mi, the crispy pork belly was amazing. The skin nice and crunchy! The house made chutney was delicious and when added with all the other ingredients made an amazing banh mi.

My friend ordered the popular;
Chook in Broth - Flame grilled Vietnamese spiced chicken in our broth, wild mushrooms, herbs, pickles, and egg.
Might I say that this dish is definitely value for money and so yummy!! The broth wasn’t too thick, the chick was plentiful and the noodles cooked just right.

We topped off our meal with a side of fries.

Friday 26th – Finishing the week with burgers, Burger Project, World Square
After a busy week at work, my friend and I decided to finish it off with nice juicy burgers from The Burger Project. Nothing else really needs to be said. The photo speaks for itself.

And that's it for the month of August.

Hope you all enjoyed!
